Matt Webber, IPSC Regional Director for New Zealand
Welcome to Pistol New Zealand's IPSC page, the home of Practical Shooting in New Zealand.

IPSC, The International Practical Shooting Confederation, was formed in 1976, and now embraces 69 Regions. Competition includes National
and Continental Championships with the pinnacle of IPSC competition being the tri annual World Shoot.

Practical shooting is a dynamic sport that awards competitors equally for accuracy, power and speed, and which is represented by the
Latin phrase "Diligentia, Vis Celeritas" or DVC.

Scores are expressed in terms of Hit Factor, which is the number of points scored per second. The highest hit factor takes all the
stage points and other competitors are rewarded proportionally.

Diversity is the cornerstone of our matches, we never shoot the same courses, and so the challenge always changes. The IPSC shooter is
a "jack of all trades", capable of pinpoint accuracy and blazing speed.

Our primary principal is safety and thanks to excellent training, discipline and the outstanding efforts of course designers and
dedicated Range Officers, we have an enviable and exemplary safety record.

Practical shooting encompasses rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting and competition is divided into Divisions. For example we have an
Open Division, for optically sighted guns, Standard for metallic sights, a Revolver Division and Production for service type pistols
like Glocks and Sigs. Competition also recognizes the categories, Junior, Lady, Senior, and Super Senior so IPSC is a game for all
ages and genders.

IPSC competitions are shot through out the country. If you'd like more information about our great sport, please contact me
at practical@pistolnz.org.nz.

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING
June, 2008

Kia Ora,

The IPSC North Island competition held recently was a success with an outstanding attendance of 68 shooters in all, this was great
to see - we must be doing something right. It seemed that everyone enjoyed the weekend.

By the way, if you didn't already know, when you entered the North Islands you were automatically entered in the Nationals - no,
just joking! Seriously though, is there a reason most of you won't be there? It will be the same only bigger. If you're a new
shooter, don't be afraid to attend as we all had to start somewhere. People are there to enjoy themselves and it's a good way to
gain shooting experience.

This leads me on to the topic of squad selection. I'd like to make all shooters aware that the squadding for future Island events
will be mixed. By having a mixture of skill levels in each squad the top shooters will be more able to help out the newer
shooters. If someone in your squad asks for help, please take the time to help them if you can. It'll benefit the sport overall
in the long term.

The Nationals will include Super Squads as well as mixed. There will be new style attendance pins for participants (another
incentive to come and shoot!).

Shooters please check your grades on the web page before you send in your entry form(s) to any of the shoot's, as it is up to
date and true.

Of course you might not like what you see but that is what you have being shooting, so don't sell yourself short.

The age classes are as follows:
Super senior- 60+ on the first day of event
Senior - 50+ on the first day of the event
Junior - under 21 on the first day of the event

I hope this helps clears things up a bit amongst you fiercely competitive oldies out there.

Anyone, or any club out there willing to host next year's North Islands, please get in touch. The 3 Gun Nationals will most likely
be held at Awakeri Pistol Club. I don't have the exact information yet, but as soon as I get it, it will be up on the web site.
So keep checking.
