ISSF Report December 2008
by Jason Wakeling

Competitions
The competition season is well underway now. Since the last issue we have had the Hamilton Open and Graded (better known as the
HOG) and the Christchurch Graded in October then the South Island Champs in November hosted by Christchurch Pistol Club. Thanks
to those Christchurch and Hamilton members who put in the work to organise these. It was good to see a number of new names
amongst the results, keep up the good work all those who have helped and encouraged new people to take part, it's vital that we
bring in new blood. From a personal point of view, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Paul Thompson back to ISSF
pistol shooting after a "scheduled" break of 18 years, still shooting the pistol he bought new in 1985!

Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Congratulations to Samantha Nobes for Qualifying to shoot in the 2009 AYOF which will be held in Sydney during February. And,
thanks to the other juniors who made the effort to take part in the qualifying matches.

Secondary Schools Air Pistol Competition
This year four schools took part. Whangarei, Wentworth, Ashburton and Taieri. The more schools that take part next year the
better. If you would like to find out what it takes to create a school team from your local area just contact
me or Debbie Wakker

Pistol NZ website by the time this goes to print.

2010 Commonwealth Games
With the CWGs coming up in India in 2010, now is the time for those that would like to press for selection to start thinking about
how they plan to achieve this. Bear in mind that there will not be the level of funding that we have had previously to use during
the build up. You will need to plan which events you think will be most beneficial to you and work towards them. Expect to pay
for most of it yourself so think how you can gain the most out of what you do.

Growth
To continue to grow our ISSF section, we need more clubs to host competitions. We have a small group of clubs that regularly
host matches, but we could always do with more. So if you think your club would like to host an ISSF match however small or
large please contact me and I can help you get started.

Finally I would like to repeat that we all need to go a little out of our way, maybe giving up a bit of our own shooting time,
to encourage someone new into the sport. At club level first, then on to regional and national competitions. It takes only a
small effort and we will all benefit from it.

See you on the range.
